Get To Know Your Candidates: Jack

I am running for President of the Cranston Teachers’ Alliance with a vision to provide members with a strong voice at all levels of our profession.  I have experience at the national level, state level, and local level.  I have a collaborative, respectful relationship with Central Administration and look forward to negotiating solutions to our collective concerns and interests.  I will focus on creating a transparent, cooperative relationship with our membership.  You WILL KNOW that your union is working for you.  Communication with our members is paramount to a successful union that works collaboratively.  To our team, the word solidarity isn’t just a salutation, it’s a mission.

At this time, I would like to introduce myself on a more personal level.  I graduated in 1981 from West Warwick High School, 1986 from CCRI, and 1988 from RIC.  After graduation, I married and moved to Cocoa, Florida where I taught for 13 years.  During that time we welcomed two children into our lives.  Korey was born in 1991 and Jessica was born in 1994.  In 2001, following my divorce, I returned to Rhode Island and taught for one year at Rogers High School in Newport before being hired to work in Cranston at the New England Laborers’/Cranston Public Schools Construction Career Academy as it was then called.

With my children relocating to Rhode Island, we welcomed my first grandchild, Ryker Allen, to our world in 2013, followed by Jiovanni Antonio in 2015, and Quinn Karen in 2018.  They are my world.  I cherish the time I spend with them individually and as a complete family.

My other passion is sports.  I am an avid Boston sports fan:  Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics.  Baseball is my number one passion because my father was all about baseball though he would watch anything considered sports.  Whenever possible, I try to attend a few games a year.
